About Us

Age Concern Kensington & Chelsea is one of the major providers of services for older people in the Royal Borough. The geographic "patch" covered by the organisation runs from North Kensington - home of the largest Carnival in Europe and Portobello Road with its antique stalls, south to Chelsea with its fashion stores, Chelsea Pensioners in winter scarlet and of course the Flower Show. Ninety-two languages are spoken within this the most densely-populated Inner London Borough and this is reflected within both the staff and the older people with whom we work.

The organisation is a member of the Age Concern Federation and was founded 30 years ago to improve the quality of life of older residents living in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea through the provision of support and services. Age Concern Kensington & Chelsea is an independent organisation with its own charity and company registration.

On 1st April 2009 we merged with Sixty Plus, a volunteering service to support older people in the borough. The combined organisation has resulted in a broader range of services, activities and volunteering opportunities blended together under the management of Cynthia Dize, the Chief Executive Officer. A Board of Trustees are elected annually by our membership at the AGM and a staff team responsible for delivering a range of services. We are also assisted by over two hundred volunteers, allowing us to spread both our fiscal and human resources to the best effect.

With the help of over 200 volunteers who range in age from 16 to 90 something, our volunteer services are able to offer that little bit of help which enables many older people to remain living at home for longer. Because we use volunteers, many of our services are free of charge reflecting the large number of our members who are on means-tested benefits.
